Yo Creeps...

We have started a new section of the site, the 13G Spotlight, where we are going to be showcasing up and coming artists who we think are really doing some great stuff out there. Artists who are pushing the boundries of themselves and what they do.

So with great pleasure we bring you our first featured artist, a talented producer from JHB who is really producing some quality beatz and he goes by the name of TH&O. We met up with TH&O on one afternoon and had a chat about life and such things in the heart of Johazardusburg, as well as to talk about some beats.

The track that we first came across from TH&O. was the one you can listen to below, titled PLAY AROUND featuring Tumi - and it really went down well. As soon as we heard it we were like that has to be the first featured artist, I must say I the track is a killer.

13G: So tell us a little about yourself, growing up, what music and which artists had an influence on you...

TH&O.: I was born in the centre of Johannesburg on the 18th of june 1989, and growing up, my musical influences varied, like most kids of that time, I pretty much loved everything that was on the radio, or what ever my parents were playing, from Elton John to Stevie Wonder to Caiphus Semenya to Michael Jackson etc. It's really hard to say who or what influences me right now, due to the fact that as one grows ones taste becomes more eclectic, and i guess all i can say is, all music influences me, from sticky sweet pop, to face scrunching hip hip and even smooth Jazz, I just love a lot of music.

13G: Who do u think is hot in SA right now ?

TH&O.: I wont lie, thats a very difficult question for me personally, mainly because who I think is 'hot is SA right now' is really immaterial. Anyone can go to any of the top radio stations charts or check out who's album is selling the most or getting the most downloads or what ever and that is who's 'hot in SA right now'. BUT! I honestly feel theres so many talented artists, producers and musicians alike who are not being heard or noticed (for what ever reason) and I think that's lame… for lack of a better word.

13G: Sure agreed. I think the local market is pretty hard to crack, i think its down to the mainstream media not giving local talents the coverage they really should be. Which bands/artists have you worked with in the past year or two?

TH&O.: Honestly, none. I've just been working on getting my craft as a producer to the next level, on my own, and that's all i've been doing really, 'schooling' myself, and thats been a ride of its own.

13G: Who would you like to work with ?

TH&O.: There are so many people i'd love to work with, but more importantly, i'd love to work with anyone who's actually serious about making music, and isn't afraid to open their mind and create some fun music.

13G: Where do u think the local industry is headed ?

TH&O.: Wow, another difficult question. I wish I could predict the future, but what I can say is that I have faith in SA and I have faith in music, and i'll say this with the risk of coming off myopic but, we have so many great people in and out of the industry, and currently - as an observer - i've noticed a real hunger among my generation for quality local music, with that being said, I feel with time the SA music industry can only get better... or not, who really knows?

13G: Whats the latest project you are working/worked on - and what should we look out for ?

TH&O.: Right now i'm a little all over the place, but my main focus for now and for the future is writing more and producing more for other people, I've got a few projects in the line up, I don't want to mention any names as yet cause I don't want to jinx them by name dropping (laughs).

13G: Where & when are u performing live - or where at least can we get your tracks ?

TH&O.: As i said before, my main focus now is seriously behind the music in the 'studio' so no performing, but all my next projects will be accessable online and such.

13G: Where do u like to party when u in JHB ?

TH&O.: Honestly i'm not much of a party person, i love partying at home, but i when do go out, just like anyone else. Somewhere there's beer and music and I'm there, and down for some fun.

13G: Finally - Any last words ?

TH&O.: Uhmmm, yeah aah… BOOM, CLAP, BOOM, CLAP, those are some cool words... Just kidding, last words, lets just all support music, more so SA music :)

13G: Those are cool words ? No just kidding too. So there you have it peeps, and just as we think:
